I was thinking about camping next weekend instead of trailering my boat back and forth but all this talk of break-in's has me concerned. If I am anchored in the water someone could come up and steal my stuff while I snooze. If I shore the boat up and camp on the bank then I would never hear someone going through my boat. Either way, the thieves would have to be in a boat to access my stuff. Then there is the conundrum of leaving the car at the boat ramp overnight.

Does anyone have experience "camping" on your boat? I'm just fed up with towing back and forth all weekend. It seems much easier to me to just stay on the water.

Use a trustworthy boat ramp that is well lit. I use Harrison Bay alot and although I have never been broken into, I did have a drunk run down the side of my truck and trailer with another boat trailer, and never left a note or anything. I havent camped a lot in my boat but I leave it at the ramp all night while night fishing. You could leave a pit bull in your truck.

Harrison Bay would probably be one of the safer one's but I was hoping to fish in the Gorge. I thought the TVA ramp at Raccoon Mountain was one of the safer ones as well until that member informed us of the break-in.

I'll probably have my wife drive the car back and come pick me up at the ramp on Sunday. Now. . . what are the odds of someone stealing my stuff in the boat while I sleep emoScratch

TVA's not too bad. Park under a light. leave your glove box open. Thieves are opportunists just don't give them a reason to break in. I've camped on every lake and river around here. Spent two weeks on my pontoon one time (Calderwood). I must say I've never been without a dog and a Stainless pistol.</p>

Used to run into a guy close to the Catfish House who would bring his lawnmower on his little house boat and mow him a spot on one of the islands. We'd swap fish and lies.

No dog, but will definitely be locked n' loaded. Sadly, we live in a dangerous and untrustworthy era. I would not hesitate to defend myself or property. I do feel a sense of botherhood among boaters but I won't be naïve in thinking there are no individuals with malcontent.
