I have a 17'6" Small bass boat with 1994 90 hp evinrude

Right now it runs 36-39 MPH per GPS

Ive heard of same hp motors on about the same size boat run in the upper 40's to 50 mph

Wrenchin or anyone who messes with motors....... Can this be done without straining the motor too much.

I will see what pitch prop i have im really not even sure as i aquired this boat this spring.

Anyone have any opinions on what pitch prop i should be using?

Its not a big deal but if i could squeeze just alittle more out of it.... that would be awsome.

You should be getting more speed. I had a 17ft Tracker with a 40hp motor a long time ago and it would run almost 30mph. I'm sure someone will chime in that knows something.

wrecnhin can do it if any one can but leave him alone he has enough to do right now LOL.. after he finishes my block feel free to call him LOL.. but i talked to him about same thing with mine i got a 15' 8" boat with a 70 hp and he is going to do a few minor things to add some horsepower on the rebuild and then he told me by adding a better prop and even a small jackplate i could possible get another 5 mph.. but those two things will have to wait as the motor rebuild is flat out breaking my bank account haha

Need to know more about the boat. 2 Boats that weigh the same can have totally different hydrodynamics. Take a 900# 19' bullet and a 17' #825 glasstream and put identical 150's on them and the bullet will eat the glasstream up even though it is heavier. This is beause the bullet is made to lift (wide pad) and be faster where the glasstream is lighter it has smaller pad and does not lift as much out of the water thus is slower.

Like not trimming a boat. When you trim, you feel the speed pick up and the ride gets better because more of the boat lifts. Need to look at the set up and optimize what you have. Most boats do better with jackplates because they create leverage to pull more boat out of the water thus increasing speed. A prop can make a WORLD of different. I have ran boats and had 7 different props and had 8 MPH between the faster and slowest prop and that was with each one "dialed in". Hopes this helps...

JDK,
Your engine is in poor shape. Goes to show how much damage someone who don't know what they are doing and without the right tools can do to a outboard!!! Look at the bright side...... You got a good deal on the boat because of someone elses stupidity!!!LOL!!!

i mean if its just going to gain me 5 mph its not worth the money really..... now i i could get 10 mph or better then maybe so........... i may be in contact with you..pm me your number if you dont mind

5 mph is alot on the water! If the set up is optimized then alot of things happen.... Quicker hole shot, better acceleration, faster top speeds and better fuel economy. Just a thought.
