Hey y'all,
Went back to the Caney today. Got to the water at 4:03pm, fished 'til 6:45.
Started out just like yesterday. Fish were rising all over but the wind would pick up and it seemed to just shut 'em down. Bite was slow as molasses to start, but I picked up a couple decent trout.
I moved up river about 75 yards from one of my favorite holes 'cause I thought I had taught 'em what I was using for bait had sharp steel in it. First cast produced a nice fat healthy 17"er. Caught eight in a row in the same spot, casting to the exact same place each time. Nice fish but not quite as big as yesterday's biggest. I guess I caught 20 or so before I got cold and had to quit.
Biggest was around 19". All were healthy and fat as ticks.
I forgot to mention something yesterday. The first trout I caught yesterday was about 12" with what looked like a broke back. It was a rainbow but it looked like one of those humpback salmons. Its back bent down sharply right in front of its dorsal fin and the head was turned straight up. In the whole time I've fished the Caney, I don't recall seeing one look like that. He fought fine and was real lively so I turned him a loose. He swam off fine.
Anyways it was awesome to be on the Caney today watchin' trout rise and an Osprey buiding it's nest right across the river. Sorry no pics, I didn't take the camera today.
