I got to fish the Caney for the first time this year, and it did not disappoint. Monday they ran one generator from 9-4. The sluice gate was open and it made navigation perfect. I caught alot of rainbows both days and a few browns mixed in. I boated a few browns in the 14-16inch range, and I was surprised at the number of large rainbows ( up to 17") that I caught. Tuesday at about 3:15, I finally hooked up with an extra large brown, on about the third try, he canned my jerkbait and rolled a little bit and just bulldogged his way toward the boat, I was already imagining what position I would have him mounted, then all of the sudden as i reached for the net, he jumped about 5 foot out of the water right next to the boat, and spit the bait out. Oh well I probably boated over 50 fish in 2 days and had a ball with it. All fish came on a lucky craft pointer 78 in american shad color.

I think the big one was a male it had a very noticable "mandible" for a mouth. he looked to be 26-30". I say that because I have a 26" on the wall. Yes, I will be back! Saturday!

Sounds like a lot of fun churly. How big is a Pointer 78? I thought that you really had to throw itsy bitsy baits to those fish to get them to bite. I guess that I was wrong.

Great report there churly. Those are some beautiful fish. I've never fished the Caney but have crossed it dozens if times wondering what was in there.
Did you catch any smallmouth? That river just looks like smallmouth heaven to me. Where did you put out?
If you ever need a backseat up there look me up.

Polo, you can use as big of a jerkbait as you like, the key is fishing while the water is being pulled through the dam. I've caught those fish on baits up to 5" in the past. I like using 4-6lb mono in the green color. No smallmouth! I have seen them down river from there, in fact if you go down the caney to where the Smith Fork enters the river. The Smith Fork is a great creek for smallies.

Your're having a great week. A different species everyday. Keep it up. Sounds like another type of slam. Multi-species- multi-river slam.

I never thought of it! I caught all three species of black bass on Old hickory. Browns, rainbows, and one small rockfish on the Caney. I guess we could label it the Cumberland River watershed slam! LOL!
