Has anybody ever used one? This device enables you to up load from analog ( VCR,8MM ) to your PC, store it or burn to DVD. I was wondering if anybody could recommend a product that they have used.

I have such a device.... bought it a couple of years ago at Best Buy. It is a "Pinnacle" product. My version is called Studio 8. I'm certain there have been about 58 newer versions created since then. I paid about $200 for it, and it included the board I had to install in my computer, the interface cable, and the editing software. I had some bugs with it initially... when I captured, the video and audio was sometimes not in-sync. From Pinnacle user-forum I actually found a secondary piece of software real cheap that I use to capture and get around the sync problem. The editing is fairly user friendly... again, a few bugs but nothing I couldn't deal with. I can record back to tape or burn Video CD's (which play in most DVD's). However my version does not burn DVD's. That is all a moot point however because again, I'm sure there are upgraded versions now... although it may soon be hard to find analog conversion systems since everyone is starting to shoot digital.

I looked at several on TigerDirect.com but my system is far from par (according to the specs) to be using one. I wanted to do some videoing and put it on the Computer. I have a VHC-C camcorder and wanted to "capture" some topwater strikes and maybe a fish or two...;)

I have the next version up of the one RSimms has- Pinnacle Studio 9 . I bought a refurbished one from Tigerdirect for about $50.00, mostly to transfer old family tapes to DVD. It was easy to install( just hook the cables up and run the software CD's- no extra cards to be installed in the machine) and although I have only limited expierience with it was able to transfer a VHS movie (The Outlaw Josie Wales) to DVD without too much trouble. It's time consuming as the tape only uploads in realtime and my 2x DVD burner is relatively slow also. Otherwise it works pretty good. JC1

What were the system requirements?

I don't know specific system requirements. I'm running a 1.6 GHz processor, 512 MB Ram with 60 GB of storage. That will hold about 4 to 5 hours of video... but I never fill it up. I always clean and delete when done with a project.
