My 40HP Suzuki hasn't been running in awhile, and won't start. It's getting fire and gas, but I believe the carb needs cleaning. Is there anyone you could recommend to do this work? I live in Cleveland, TN but work in Chattanooga so could take it there for service.

Thanks for your help. Gotta get this running. I love winter fishing.

You can clean it yourself, watch what you are doing, get some Berryman's B-12 carb cleaner at wallyworld, take the carb apart, don't break any gaskets, wash everything in the carb cleaner, blow out all air and gas passages with compressed air, put a bit of wd-40 on all the parts and put it back together. If you can't do this from memory, get a clymer's book on your motor and it will tell you step by step how to do it, gap and install new plugs, install new gas mixture if it mixes and try starting it just like you have always done. Some carbs have adjustments, some don't.

TO add to that.......If it has idle screws, take and mark it, example is.....say it is at the 2'oclock position and 2 rounds in until SOFT seat. Then removed. Upon install, run to SOFT seat and back out back to the original position. This will save you a TON of time trying to get the mixture correct. If it was correct when it was running, chances are it will be correct once you get it cleaned again. Some carbs just have idle jets and are only adjustable by replacing the jets. Hope this helps.....

Doc1 & wrechin2:

Thanks for the advice. I'm not much of a mechanic, but I should give it a try with your suggestions. It has always run great, and I believe I failed to run it out of fuel the last time I had it out. Plus it has been more than a year since it has been run, so I'm sure that old gas has everything gunked up. I will pick up some of the that carb cleaner Doc1.

Should be pretty simple for you. If it is a 89 DT40, I have the gaskets that you would need for the carb. I will GIVE them to you. If you call me and remind me on Saturday, I am going to the party and you can get them from me. I have enough to do both carbs. That will save you close to $50. I have almost thrown them away SEVERAL times cause I didn't think anyone would need them. Only thing is you have to say PLEASE!!!! LOL!! 423-304-0930

I hadn't planned to attend the CFF party as my former employer is also having their Christmas Party on the 12th. I guess I'll stop by the CFF party on my way to the other one. I can't pass up that much generosity.

So, I'll try to call you sometime before then. I better sign up for the CFF party as well. Gee two party's in one night, and my current employer's party is the night before. I will be full of Christmas glee for sure.

Thanks again for your help. I see myself back on the water soon:)

Would be a great deal to met people and get free parts!!! Who could ask for more!!!! LOL!! And get to emoHungry
