Fun Day on the river. Decided to go wade Little River and chase some of my favorite fish.I invited my friend Kathy Smith to try some fishing that she had never done before. Kathy is a very accomplished tournament fisher-person but she had never gotten up close and personal by wading. We got on the water by 6:00 am and started by capturing some bait. We eased into the water and began seining to catch some Grampus(hellgrammites). After a lengthy search we finally had a few and decided to get started. We put in at the Old Wilson's Bridge just off of 321. At the end of the day we had traveled about 5 water miles over some very tough terrain. Not so much up and down unless you count all of my falls and slips. There is a lot of aquatic vegetation, but the very next large flat rock would be so slick you couldn't pick yourself up after landing on it. lol Then there would be thousands of golf ball size or a little bigger that were so slick they would not stick to the bottom. About like walking on golf balls on a slope. My knees look like they have been run threw a meat grinder and I am sore all over. That was the tough part.

The fun part was catching quality fish on a gorgeous river and being pretty much to yourself. Despite the tough walk, collecting bait(except having to hold them), numerous dunks and scrapes, Kathy was all smiles and excitement. She can't wait to go again. She also caughta couple of the largest Redeyes, smallmouth, and two stonerollers. Just another great day on the water.

Redeyes are my favorite pan fish to eat. After a hard day on the water there is nothing better then a large platter of fried Redeye and some home made chips.

That's awesome! And a huge hornyhead! Wow. Now is this the Little River that flows into Weiss lake?

No, this is Little River out of Townsend. It flows into Ft. Loudoun and eventually down to Chickamauga.

Now that's the way to beat the heat and have a good time in the true outdoors...very prestine waters and lots of shade. Great report!

Wow that is awesome, years ago when my girls were little and liked to camp we used to camp in Townsend. I've floated that river many times in a tube but never fished it. It would be a great river to kayak I think! It has been years since I was in Townsend. Without giving away any "honey" holes where would you recommend as a place to launch a fishing kayak? Thanks for the report and the pictures. That trip is what it is all about, having a great time enjoying what the good Lord has blessed us with emoAngel .

Basically the same trip we did is good. Put in at the Wilson's Bridge(where old road connects back to 321) and make the run down river. There is a road side park approx. 2 road miles down river. It is farther then that by water. This time of year the water is down and it is shallow. You may have to do a little portage in spots. Good luck.

Thanks Carl for the info. The kayaks are light so a little carrying shouldn't be a problem. That is such a beautiful area, even if I didn't catch any fish it would still be a day well spent emoParty .
