Carp Fishing Anyone

Wait until the big ones spawn in the spring and shoot them with a crossbow or bow and arrow. I don't do it but it would be easy around the Harrison bay islands when the water warms up.

Take the kids fishing when it warms up, give the kids a zebco and bait it up with doughballs made from light bread. You will have the time of your life.

I lived in the West Virginia panhandle for about a year in the late '70's, right on the Ohio River. We used to catch carp on dough-balls made with Wheaties, yellow corn meal, and molasses. Pretty well used the same rig that we use for cats around here, a 3-way swivel, with a hook on one line and a weight on another, them tight-line it on the bottom. That was about the only fun to be had in that part of West Virginia.

I got the secret on this one. Find a shallow water flat starting in March and looks for feeding carp early in the morning. You will need calm weather and good polarized glasses. Once you find an area with a large number of carp you will want to use the cheap yellow can corn, throw out a few handfulls in water 3-5 feet, and wait about 30 minutes. If the carp are in the area you will know it in a hurry as the water around the corn will start to get discolored from the feeding fish. Once you see this bait some corn on the hook and hold on. I used to catch a bunch of carp off our dock on Watts Bar from the time the water came up to mid May. The best areas to look for carp are the backs of creeks which are prime spawing areas. Look for very shallow flats and bays. I would look for fish in water 5 feet or less.

Now the real question is the legality of baiting carp with corn? I could not find anything in the regs so this is still an open ended question.

I dont think there are any regs on baiting carp. I know you love them MW, but it is considered trash fish to Johnny-Law.

I don't carp fish any, but I did catch a 28lber bass fishing last week on a huskyjerk. Took me about 15 min. to get it in. I was wore out after that fight.

Carp were originally introduced as feeder fish for humans. How did it become junk fish? Im willing to try it if I find an interesting recipie.

If anyone is ever interested in bankside fishing for carp please PM me .Also if you want to try to give em a go on your own then please do as SMA suggests and visit the carpanglers group website .There is a vast wealth of info on this hard fighting sportfish and plus there are also recipes and ways to fillet the fish (Although apparently the best meat from them is from the smaller fish around 10lb the bigger ones taste aweful because of the mud vein ).There is a lot of misinformation about this species of fish in the USA some of it maybe true some not true but I like to keep a level head on it and let the debate carry on but i do know everywhere else around the world carp fishing is big but slowly the sport is growing here :)( In the Carolinas and PA it is a huge sport where a lot of money changes hands on the paylakes ).Its rather surprising that it is not fished more with rod and line than other methods as it really puts up a good fight but different strokes for diff folks i guess Its also cheap way to fish for fun as you can catch carp on a 20 dollar set up from wallyworld .The TN river system is currently begining to get a big name for itself on the hunt for catching and releasing the huge specimens (over 20lb) I meet people from all over the country and the world who are coming here espescially to target the big ones which imo is also good as it brings in tourist dollars to TN (on a small scale i know but its something :)) .I myself was lucky to catch a 44lb last year , I catch, photo and release the fish I catch so they can fight on for another day
As i said if anyone ever wants to give it a go you have an open invite from me :)

P.S. if anyone wants to share a few hotspots where they have seen big carp please share with me lol

I remember seeing an article either in the paper or on the Chattanoogan.com about carp fishing. Was that about you?  Either way, I would be up for battling a 44lb fish of ANY kind!!</p>
