I purchased this rod, on Saturday, at Pro Lures in Dalton, Georgia. I immediately went home and put my ole faithful Curado 200-B on it, and put some 12 # Berkley Big Game on it. I tied on a 1/8 oz. Bullet Weight sinker with a 2/0 Gamakatsu EWG bleeding hook, and a Junebug Baby Paca Craw. Now that you know the setup that I was working with, let me give you the beef about the rod.

It is the CastAway Rods Pro Sport 7'0" MH action casting rod. It has 8 Fugi guides on it, a premium cork handle, and is light as a feather. Couple it with a quality reel, and you have a combo that is going to put bass after bass in the boat for you.

The rod is what I consider a 20/80 rod.......that being, the top 20% of the rod breaks when pressure is applied (i.e., setting the hook) and the other 80% is backbone, which is needed for playing the fish. It has an extremely soft tip, which might give you the impression that slamming the rod back for a hard hook set might damage the tip, but after hooking into a couple of bass with this rod, I found that you can give the hookset all that you have, and the rod is going to be just fine. Also, it is not a rod that is going to wear your arm out after a long day on the water.

If I were going to give this rod a rating on a scale of 1-10, I would have to give it a 9. The reason I don't give it a 10 is because I would have liked to see more 1-2 more guides on the rod. Other than that, I feel that it's a rod that a newcomer could pick up and use, or that an experienced veteran could use, and literally have a sense of "feel" that they haven't experienced before. It's amazing just how much you do "feel" when using this rod.
