Got off work early and went by the dam and caught some skipjack. Got to my fishing hole around 5:00pm fished until 9:15 caught 12 fish with the largest being 18 lbs. Few years ago I would have said that was a great day catfishing but since I started looking for big fish ( over 25 lbs ) it just doesn't mean the same. Kinda like deer hunting, you let the six pointers and small 8 walk to get a chance at the big boy. Don't get me wrong, it was a great trip, I love being out on the water. ( catching small fish is better than not catching any fish ) I'm glad to see that a lot of people are getting into this type of fishing. This can be a great sportfish for young people because anyone at any age can catch these fish. Rember, you can't catchem if you don't go.

The big fish were definatly hard to find yesterday. We only put two fish in the boat, a blue around 10lbs and a channel that had to be around 15lbs. We had a BIG fish on for about 10min, it stayed on bottom the whole time and finally pulled the hook out under the boat. We never got to see it, but from the amount of bubbles coming up and the way it pulled it had to be over 40. Other than those three we hardly even got a bite.
It was good to meet you again FM... maybe the fish will biting better for us next time.

Well I needed a laugh so I took my friend Bubba with me. Bubba is a Meigs county "country boy" who does nothing but hunt and fish. Did I mention that he's afraid of fish? He will NOT touch any kind of fish with his bare hand.... not a trout, bluegill, bass or catfish. He uses a "claw" or glove to take them off the hook, since he's never caught a fish over 15lbs I thought it would be funny to see him get something over 30lbs to the boat. When he hooked that big fish yesterday I knew as soon as that fish came up and he saw it he would cut the line with his knife. It almost happened emoLaugh !!! I took Bubba skipjack fishing this morning below the dam... He's now ready to sell his bass boat and just fish from the bank for bait, lol. He said it was the most fish he's caught all year.

Man, I don't feel so bad now about just catching 3 fish this AM in 2 hours. If "the Man" has trouble, then there's hope for us all. There will be better days DRC. You are still the man when it comes to catfishing.emoThumbsup emoGeezer

Man, I keep hearing great reports on catching these fish. It sounds like a lot of fun. Biggest catfish I ever caught was 10lbs, but it seems common for everyone to be catching 20lbers. I need to find someone to show me how to catch em.
