Went Walleye fishing this morning at Rock Island State Park. No walleyes in the boat. One man caught one this morning.. About six other boats on the water. I knew I should have went Bass Fishing..

I've seen the glory days at Rock island myself. It just doesn't happen like it used to. Do you know of any reports of good eyes being taken up there this year? My family is from that area and I love the hill. Bass fishing ought to be prime there right now!

dryhorn2,

Finally someone with some Walleye experience! How long have you been fishing for them? How do you fish for them in the spring and summer?

I spent my childhood in the great-lakes area and used to fish for them with good success. I know there are waters here in TN but have not tried them yet. I would like to try a bit this summer if I can learn something from you or others on the site.

Hey..I have a BFL up there April 1st. Never been on the lake.Any good suggestions I might try??

Some are being caught but I think the water needs to come up some. The walleyes start heading up towards Rock Island with the water temp. hits 55 to spawn. Early morning to around lunch and late evening is the best time to catch them. Jigging, Trolling Slow, and Live bait is the top three ways of getting them. My dad and I use to go all the time when I was a kid. We would troll hot shots, hot & tot and cat paw spinners( Dads Favor ). Best fish to hit hands down..

If you want to catch alot of good walleyes. my suggestion is to go to Norris lake and troll an excalibur fat free shad, that works all summer long. You will fill the boat. the eyes in the hill are just not as consistant as they were years ago. My favorite way to catch those guys is totroll a spinner rig around the lowere end. I like to jig a one ounce jig or a sonar in the spring at Rock island. You can also catch some huge walleye below Center Hill dam right now on the wing wall at night. I have a cousin that put an 8lber in the boat a couple of weeks ago. i've already told you too much. my kin folks will kill me if the knew I was spilling my walleye inheritance.

As for the guy looking for Bass holes. Do you know what a drop shot is? Rig up a drop shot but use a bitsy bug for your weight. Any time you see a tree hanging offf the bank. Stop and jiggle that sucker around it. You will catch fish! if its on a warming trend try double willow spinner baits in white/chrome in indian and minelick creeks. Also a suspending jerkbait works well in the back of the pockets. Best of luck and put 'em all back!
