Had a great day pre-fishing as far as catching fish goes but best 3 wouldn't have broke 10 lbs. I normally don't like to pre-fish the same day as a TX but work has kept me busy and tired, so I didn't have much choice. Finally got to talk to Rudy and we half way got caught up but so much happens in 20 years, it'll take at least a couple more BS sessions. Things pretty much went down hill from there. We launched 18th and after dodging telephone pole sized logs, going down river, I could see both my spots we empty. I picked one and while I didn't get a bite, my wife was catching 11 and 12 inch spots on a drop shot rigged with a SK black bisty tube. I never measured any because they were never going in the live well. I just told her, it's too small. She was having fun and I just kept her on big chunks of rock close to the point and the lil' spots kept doing their part. If you have kids, this bite has worked for her, for 2 weeks. We moved straight across the river and the sun was still shining on Patten Island. Spots were there too. The sun didn't shine long and rain started to fall. It felt good at first, washing the sweat off but it got harder. We have great rain suits but they were hanging up at the house. I bought a smart phone just so I could checked the weather and river flow but I never looked at it, so I didn't know we were 5 minutes into a monsoon. We never made a run for a dock and just fished. I kept thinking it would quit but it would just slow down so it could get worse. My bride of 33 years told me her panties were soaking wet, funny how time has changed the meaning of those words. At that point, I knew this was going to be a short night. We made our way to the point and I made the same cast with the same SK 1/2 oz red/chart red eyed shad, that earlier in the day brought in a 4/8 smallie. I got the hit from hell, the rod loaded up and thought I had his daddy but it was over as fast as it started. I thought I had a wad of grass or a small limb as I reeled in. It turned out to be a 15 inch crappie that seemed content for the free tow. We migrated back to the park and she caught a couple of slicks on tube rigged drop shot. We could see the truck and the lightning and just loaded up. All our fish outside the park were caught while sitting in 17-22 FOW throwing at the bank and pulling past big rocks. I know they weren't keepers but watching someone enjoy themselves is part of what fishing is all about.
