Seven CFF Members gathered this morning to help TWRA and State Park officials create some great fishing structure for anglers who visit Booker T. Washington State Park. Tileman, Pointer78, Tr19, FishnFool, FishnFire, JSV and your truly joined TWRA Wildlife Officers Matt Majors & Ben Davis, along with State Park Ranger Danny Basham... plus Matt Majors' father, Fred Majors. Matt has been gathering up about 200 discarded Christmas trees for a while. The crew set to work around 8:30 placing the trees on and around the fishing piers at Booker T. For those who haven't been in there, it's a very deep slough. The fishing pier is in about 15 feet of water, even with the water down for the winter. Tileman donated a hefty number of concrete blocks so we could sink some trees out away from the pier. It might take a little while for the trees to lose needles and reach their full "fish attracting" capacity, but there's no doubt that anglers will have a much better place to fish in the coming months and years. I had to leave them still working. Matt was going to donate extra trees to any CFF'ers who wanted them. Not sure if anybody will end up taking advantage of that or not. Regardless, kudos to all of the fine gentleman who were willing to give up a day on the water to help the resource, and other fishermen. Here they are at work (with an occasional "rest stop"):
