It has a 9 amp system.

While running WOT, that system can make around 16-17 Volts. That is one of the reasons you don't use a maintenance free battery (sealed car battery). It only has a rectifier and not a regulator. At dead idle, it may only show battery volts. The mercury manual want it tested at 1000 rpms after allowing time to stabilize. This depends on battery level. then it should read13-14 volts. The yellow wires under the flywheel will go to the rectifier. With that igniton system,(ADI altenator driven ignition) it is possible for the stator to be bad even though it runs. It has 2 seperate circuits.
