This has probably been asked before but I didn't see it. I have a factory installed onboard charger on my Tracker. I was wondering if it is ok to leave it connected, after recharging the batteries, even it might be a week before I get to go back out again.

Murdock, This really depends on what model charger you have and how old. Any of the new (not more than 6 years old) have auto shut off and turn on functions, thus making it perfectly find to leave them plugged in....as always keep an eye on the water level in your batteries.

See this recent link- it should tell what you need to know.

Also, when you are looking for similar information that may have previously been discussed, click the 'forums' button on the top of the page under the CFF header. In your case, 'Boating and Trailering', you can see all the post titles for that particular forum, and select them accordingly. There is a search function you can use also.

Personally, I just don't want to take the chance. Too many bad things can happen if you leave them plugged in. I plug in ASAP when I get off the lake and unplug when the fully charged. If you go a week or so between trips, you can plug the night before and be fine.

Danny, I've got a Minn-Kotta 2 bank on my boat and I've been leaving it plugged up all the time but after reading all the info on the CFF about it I plan to "unplug" after it's charged and then replug the night before a trip. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, I had been leaning toward unplugging mine after re-charging it so this confirms it. Thanks to everyone. Gator, I hope you are having a great trip. Duck and I went on Sat. and had about the same results and you and I did. Have a great week, everyone.

I also have the Minn Kota two bank charger and plug it in for the night, right after a trip, then unplug the next morning. I then plug it in the evening before my next trip and I'm good to go. On occasion I've forgotten to plug it in the night before or it was a spur of the moment trip and I've found that as long as it hasn't been a really long time since my last trip when the batteries got charged I can just plug the charger in and the batteries will show a full charge during the time it takes me to get the boat ready to go. Just remember to unplug it before you pull off ---- I speak from experience  .
