I've had a few pairs of expensive glasses, but seems like the more they cost, the quicker they disappear. I started buying the renegades from wal-mart and they seem to be pretty good. I know there are pros and cons for each, so I figured I would get some opinions on it.

Cheap lens doesn't compare to the high dollar lens. You can't compare cheap plastic lens to quality glass lens. Alot less fatigue on your eyes at the end of the day with high dollar glasses. Being able to see more in the water with quality lens than cheap plastic ones justifies the cost for me.

I finally got to test out the Polar Eyes that I got from PL today. I have to say that they are great glasses for the price. I tested several areas of the lake, where I looked into the water, and I saw many bass in the water, where without the glasses, I couldn't see them. And, when I got back home, and took the glasses off, my eyes didn't have any fatigue. So, I have to say that it's a win-win situation with what I got from Phil.

I am a cheap Dutchman and love the ones I got from Walmart. They do the job for me. I have bought Oakley's in the past and I love the $14.99 dollar ones instead from Wal-mart. And if you loose them, it is a lot easier to explain to your wife :)

I used to think that expensive sunglasses were a ripoff, that is untill my wife bought me a good pair of Gargoyles over 15 years ago. I since have had Oakleys and now have several pairs of Costa Del Mar glasses. Like Andrew said there is no comparison in good and cheap glasses. My eye doctor has told me the same thing as well. If you talk to the people that have had cataract surgery you will find that most either did not wear any sunglasses or they were using cheap ones. Cheap sunglasses allow tiny beams of light to enter your eyes like needles and over time do damage. High quality lenses spread the light rays out and essentially smooth out the way your eye sees the light. These type lenses cause less fatigue and protect youe eyes much better.
It is not a matter of whether you can afford them but a matter of how much you value your eyesight.
Don't take mine or anyone elses opinion however. Just ask any eye doctor.

I'm a big time believer in the better glasses. It took me forever to convince my wife that she was messing up her eyes with the cheapos. Finally got her to put on some of mine and now she wouldn't think about anything else. We have Revo's, Maui Jim's, and Costa Del Mars. You only have one pair of eyes, don't skimp on them. The glare off the water is twice as bad as you think. When I put on my Revo's, my eyes instantly relax. I know they are expensive but I don't think I could learn Braille.

And when you get tired of a $250 pair, just throw them in the water, right Davo emoPoke

Ouch Flip, however, you are right. If you are going to do something stupid, say, dive in the lake to save a $50 rod, make sure that you aren't wearing an auto inflate pdf and your expensive sunglasses.....:( There are some dummies on the forum that would do that.emoDoh

I used to do the wal-mart thing w/sunglasses until my wife got me some costa del mars (fathom's with a blue mirror lens) I love them. She tried them on and couldn't believe the difference in the glare reduction and the less stress on her eyes.

Had most of the big names and Serengeti seems to work best for me, between 80 and 125.00 a pair, polarized, non glare, and probably the highest quality optics in the business. I've been thru 3 pair in the last 15 years. They would have lasted longer but kids will be kids. emoDoh

Serengeti is like you said some of the best glass in the business. You have to be careful though because they do make some cheap stuff and the optical quality is not there. Wal Mart sells some that are $40. They are also very heavy too.

This reminds me of Jeff Foxworthy talkin' about expensive sunglasses and cheapos. He said, "I swear, you can't lose a pair of cheapos. You almost have to pay somebody to lose 'em for you or steal 'em. But buy you a pair of expensive sunglasses and lose 'em and they are never to be found. You could be leanin' over the side of cruise ship with a pair of cheapos on, and if they fall off, a scubadiver will come up sayin' "Found a pair of cheapos, anybody lose a pair of cheapos?"" Anyhow, thought that was pretty dadgum funny. But I have to agree that them Wal-Mart Renegade cheapos have done a good ol' job for me. I love them. I can see pretty clearly into the water in all kinds of conditions, plus they are very comfortable.

Wal-mart Cheapos? Shoot man I got a pair of pugs from the Kangaroo several weeks ago. Davo asked me if they were Maui JimsemoLaugh . They are very light and they work decently and they cost like $12. I beat my glasses to death and wear them anytime its daylight and not storming. I have owned alot of different pairs of Costas, Ocean Waves, and Oakley and they are great. But, the Jeff foxworthy thing has been true for me. Plus the Pugs go well with Mullet!emoLaugh
