I went to Chester Frost park Friday afternoon to practice backing my first boat into the water. I still have to get a little motor work done since it sat for a few years. So after I practiced for an hour or so trying to get to where I don't tie up the whole ramp we figured we could cast off the docks for a little while. I ended up catching a little 8" bass on the first cast and then we continued to fish for a half hour or so till we had to get to dinner without anymore bites. A paltry fishing report but I went and wanted to stop being a lurker ;)

Welcome foodsaver and thanks for the report. At least you are trying to be considerate of others by getting used to driving and backing your boat while it is not busy. emoThumbsup Unfortunatly, as you will find as the summer wears on that is not always the case. Lots of people have never towed a boat or trailer and have no idea how to drive it. They always pull in the ramp and start loading everything on the ramp instead of the parking lot. Always tie up the ramp and usually take their time about it. So think about it , You done something good after all. emoLaugh

Welcome aboard. I agree, it irks me to no end to see someone pull onto the ramp and then start getting the boat ready. It literally takes me about a minute to be ready and so I am sitting there waiting on some yahoo who is trying to figure out what to get out of the truck and put on the boat. I always get ready away from the ramp, that way even if I am by myself I am only on the ramp for a couple of minutes.

Thanks for practicing so you can be courteous. I wish more people did like you.

The ones I want to strangle are the folks that back down the ramp, stop about 50 feet from the water and get out and start taking the cover off the boat.

It just blows my mind every summer to watch how much faster fishermen can launch and load there boats than recreational boaters.I know we get alot more practice but really how hard could it be to load and unload a ski boat?even with a buzz:eek:

Yeah ranman, whats cool is on Parksville where its hard to get in anyway and some fruit loop flys in and passes everybody to get to the ramp, unties the jet skis and starts wheelin down the ramp and never looks to see that someone is already there. Then slams on the brakes and dumps the jet skis on the ramp! emoLaugh Saw a guy do this last year and everyone around was clapping and hollerin and cheering him on... After everyone got their breath caught up from laughin their butts off a couple of us went down and helped him put it back on the trailer. Needless to say he loaded and left. emoLaugh emoLaugh

Only use the new one at the East end of the lake. I have had stuff stolen up there when fishing at night and have to be careful up there. There is no phones till you get back to the marina so while I was gone they came back and finished me off. Lost everything out of my tool box and when I filed a report they called me up a couple a months later and said they found out who it was. Never got anything back but I guess thats the way it goes. I think they finally broke up their little thievery ring and busted about 5 of them. All of them was from Dalton and they had a regular route up into TN and back.
That has been a few years ago now but I still make sure to look at my truck real good when I go back in. Not much lighting around the ramp. I have been into it with the forest service over the lights and they was supposed to put another light up at the ramp but never did.
