Headed out fishing Thursday night (10pm)and ran into a friend coming in from fishing with his son. They had been Crappie fishing and did pretty good. He had been fishing near any dock lights he came too.
I don't crappie fish much, but decided to give it a try at the first well lit boat house I came too. Caught more than a dozen crappie on chart/blk jigs. Just cast counted down about 8 sec and retrieved. The water depth was in the 6-14 ft range. I started catching shad after shad and finaly decided to fish on down the bank with a pupkin seed lizard. Caught 3 bass and two were keeper size. Most fish I had caught in quite a while

Went back Friday night to same area with a friend. We caught 4 bass and several crappie on our 1st dozen or so cast. We had to move around a little to stay on the crappie.

We fished 3 differant docks with lights and each had crappie on them along with the occasional stripe and largemouth bass.

Thanks for the crappie info. There have been a few guys that have been interested in finding some crappies but not many of us fish for them. I think that we were marking a bunch of them when Jmax and I were fishing back near the floating dock out at Harrison Bay State Park. Crappies tend to school up in a vertical line one above the other from what I've read and I saw lots of these out over the deeper water in the HBSP slough. I would expect large numbers of crappies to be under the lights at the park especially on the end of the dock as I think that the dock ends right over the confluence of two creek channels that come together and then flow out of the slough. That's a great spot for crappies to stay, lots of bait and flow.

Yes thanks for the Crappie Info...any and all is appreciated...especially for us with kids, my boys like to fish but I need to keep them busy..and I love to eat fish :):)

Did you use a steady/straight retrieve, or did you jig it?

If you waited 8 sec. I would suspect they were near the bottom?

Mainly steady slow retrieve. Would change up every now and then with a twitch or small jerk during my retrieve. I was fishing the dock at Chester Frost last Wend nite and could see and hear that the people on the end of the pier were catching crappie. End of pier is very well lit with two large lights.
