Hi Folks, first and formost Thanks You for allowing to be a part of this GREAT AMERICAN FISHIN' Forum, i am so proud to be an American. I will be fishing out of Chester Frost on the Chick in a couple of weeks and want to navigate the lake safely. I know coming out of Chester Frost Park if i run down river i am heading towards the Nickajack Dam - correct? I want to run up river towards Soddy Creek and Pine Harbor Marina, is it cleary mark with the green & red bouy Markers? Will i be able to run full throttle staying in between the markers and be safe right now on the Chick, any help i would greatly appreciate it. If anyone here ever need any info on Lanier, Carters, or Allatoona here in Georgia just ask Ol' MoBass, i would be glad to help. I know all 3 of these lake very well. Thanks again-Mo

If you come out of CF park and swing a right you will be heading towards Chickamauga dam which spills into downtown Chattanooga and then turns into Nickajack. If you take a left out of the park you will be heading towards Soddy Creek but is a few minutes up river, about a mile past the Nuclear towers. DO NOT go by any type of contour maps right now with the water down like it is, you will be in trouble quick. As long as you stay between the bouys right now you will be fine. Good luck.

Coming out of chesterfrost be careful heading straight towards the river you might want to vear left, unless the water is up by then i'd still be careful of the sand bar straight out from the ramp headed towards the river. The prop shops got plenty of buisness lately due to the low water. And good luck up in soddy the old river channel was at around 5-7 feet as of last friday

Thank You Folks, i have a better understanding now. Thought that was the Nickajack dam but it's the Chick Dam. Thanks gain for the advice. Mo

Yup that's the chick dam, if you keep going you'll run into the nick. when your near jasper you should be on the nick.

This is very important you need to check a map and locate that sand bar it is very shallow there between the ramp and the mouth of CFP heading out to the river. Once you get out there the river is extremely well marked.

When you leave the ramp and head towards the exit of the park just stay on the right side closest to the camp grounds and you should be good.

That is some very helpfull info folks, thank You sooo much. I do know the sandbar you are speaking of, i beleive i should have some corn or beans growing there by now-LOL My spare prop has only one ding on it and it's from that sandbar. I have been to the Power plant but not past it. Thanks again-Mo

Soddy creek is on the left side of the river going north and there is a river mile marker standing in the river at the confluence of Soddy creek and the river. Soddy creek is marked good as well

nickajack starts at the dam at chickamauga. Where 153 crosses the river. Chickamauga above the dam Nickajack below the dam.

It may be at least the third time to say this but I really want you to know that right out in front and toward the opening inside The bay in Chester Frost Park there is a Major Hazard. Screw up river and down river.. If you hit that mud bar your day and month will be over. As you leave the ramp area angle out to clear the no wake buoys. Then do not shoot for the opening around the big island,,, Instead, hang to the right as if you are heading to the island. At about half-way to the island then bear left toward the center of the opening and you are home free. Not the very small first island on your right, The one where you will see the campsites is the Big Island ... Remember this on your return.. It will still be right there waiting for you.
I am pretty sure you will not be the only boat leaving out. Watch a few and you will see exactly what I mean. Have a safe trip and good luck fishing.

when you are leaving the CP and you can see the river stay close to the right side coming out ...there is a bar that should be avoid at all cost....FA have lots of fun...

The hump in CFP is about four feet deep as of yesterday.Just stay to the right a bit and you will be fine. You could probably cross the hump, lots of runabouts were doing it just fine yesterday without knowing.

This is the hump everybody is talking about==========I borrowed this post...

If anyone wants to catch a ton of fish in the three to four pound range the hump in chester frost park in front of the boat ramp is loaded with fish so if you are struggling to find some fish there you go. Carolina rigged plastic and jigs in black and blue are the ticket. Just trying to help out
