In what was probably the last day of '06 for me to wear flip flops on the water, Roba22 and myself went out for a few hours on Saturday. We put the boat in the water at 9 from Grasshopper and headed downriver to look for shad. It was misting rain and dead calm on the water, so our hopes for a few decent fish were high. Our first stop yeilded nada. At our second stop, I got a dink SM on a DJW spinnerbait, then it got quiet again for a little while. Stop three had a little more shad activity, but by now the wind had increased quite a bit and a steady rain was falling. Roba22 quickly buttoned up a football-sized LM on a chart SB that went about 3. We combed the area for a little while longer and managed three more, all on SBs. The boat went on the trailer at 1 with the temps falling and the wind blowing steady.
All five came on SBs, though we threw a gammut of baits periodically. I did have one blow up on a BB, but it came unbuttoned. The water temp was 58 the entire time we were on the water. Visibility ranged from about 1-2 feet. All fish came in very shallow water where shad were present ... Roba22's 3 lber was probabaly in a foot or less of water with shad all around it. All were also safely released.
I hated to miss the Weiss T, but it looks like you guys had fun. This was my first time to fish with Roba22 and we really enjoyed ourselves. He's still trying to get the hang of our local lakes, but he seems to be adjusting nicely!
