Freebird & I launched his new Toon from Grasshopper a little late since we wanted it to warm up a little (did it ever???) and stayed in the creek for a while with no bites. We then went upriver to a spot sheltered from the wind. Again, no luck. We'd been on the water for several hours with 0 bites and we were frozen solid when Jmax called ... and Freebird swings a dink into the boat. We happened to notice that for the first time all day the surface temp had finally hit 50. We moved into a sheltered cove and shallow cranked hoping that the warmer water in the cove had moved them up (Freebird's lone catch was at a breakline on the outside of the cove). We started getting bit on shallow cranks and Freebird lost a 3-4 lber on a Trap. We moved to another similar area and began getting bit again, except we were throwing shakey heads. The sun was about to fade and we knew the bite would too, but in a span of 30 minutes we boated three more short LMs and 2 smallies ... the largest was caught by Freebird and it was a 17" beauty. We're certain that it just got too warm, too late. If the sun had stayed high for a few more hours we would've been onto something besides frostbite.

BTW ... 2 emoThumbsup to my new J Miles custom rods ... sweet, sweet sticks. Daddy likey.

Thanks again Jmax. Next time I'm not getting bit - preferably in a tournament - be sure to give me a call. ;)
