Got out this morning pretty late, around 9:15. Put in at Wolftever and went to see if "my" shad were balling up and getting busted. Well, they sorta were and every now and then something big would bust them. I only caught 5 with only one being a keeper but I was being stubborn and not really moving from my spot. All fish were caught on either a 1/8oz chart/ white sb, or a 1/2oz white sb. I did have a big blow up on a Spro bronze eye frog in some grass and missed a couple of huge strikes on a sb but that was about it. All fish were caught in less than 3 feet of water. It was fairly windy but manageable. 2 of my big strikes on the 1/2 oz SB were pretty cool with the fish making a huge wake chasing it.

I've noticed from several recent posts that the bass are not 'jumping' like they were a week or two ago. The schooling activity has dropped from the surface to between 2 and 6 feet. I hope the topwater bite picks up before next weekend...slinging a SB for 8 hours is rough on the wrist.

Wed. and Thurs. of this week the bass were really busting the shad on the banks like crazy. I caught 20 each day with 5 or 6 keepers each day. They were just barely keepers though. I did go with drc from 5-7pm tonight and the fish were not chasing bait at all at the spots where they had been earlier in the week. However at one of my spots we caught a couple, one on a spinnerbait and a 17+ incher on a rattlin' chug bug. She was a pretty fish. I could see some shad in the area but they weren't being molested at all. I think that the front came through and shut them down. Friday was similar as they just weren't running bait on the top and Jmax and Co. caught most of the fish on subsurface baits.
