Hit the water around 3pm this afternoon with a buddy who wanted to put in a few hours to test out his new digital trolling motor...he is all about the high-tech gadgets. He has a newer model Tracker that he has decked out like one of the 45K rigs with the networked Lowrance units and XM satellite radio. The wind was ripping when we put in and the sight of all the whitecaps helped convince us that it would be best to just drop the trolling motor to spare us a beating crossing the big water in an aluminum boat. At the first windblown point we came to, I hung my XR50 in a brushpile just off the first break. I yanked a few times and freed it and then it yanked back
. 6lbs3oz of egg-streaming largemouth...not a bad start. We spent the next hour or so hopping from point to point and coming up empty. Finally we came upon another point similar to the first, with a break at about 3' into 5' with one lonely little stick-up on it. I caught two slicks off it and after several more casts I actually managed to bump into it (the wind was making accuracy nearly impossible) and got bit by a 3 1/2lbr. After that it was slicksville, with the exception of a couple chunky spots. Around 6pm the wind died, as well as the bite, so we decided to head on in. I ended with a total of 7 LM and 2 spots, 4 of which would have kept, all on a royal shad XR50. Unfortunately, my friend Jim nearly got skunked, with a feisty little warmouth saving him from zeroing
