Got the bug yesterday evening and decided to go out and try again on my pet fish. I am not sure if they have left the area or just for whatever reason have stopped biting. I was not sure if the shallow bite would remain if the water got too hot. For the second trip in a row I did not catch a keeper on my shallow pattern. I started off fishing an area in WT that I ususally catch fish that is a very good drop on a bluff with a point that comes out just past it. I seem to this time of year always can cast upstrem from the bluff across that point and bring my worm back to the bluff and hit bass. At seven yesterday eveing it was no different. Jet skies and baots going by one after another and yet they were there. About the third cast hooked up with a nice one just shy of 15 inches. Proceeded to catch six more on that point but only slicks. Still loved the fight. The water there goes from 10 feet on the point to 22 feet at the bluff. They will be there from now till winter if it goes like the last two years.

I than moved to find some better fish in shallow along a ridge that went from 3 to 6 feet. Several casts later and two slicks, no keepers. This area has been producing good keepers since the last couple of weeks. Moved to the next spot in shallow I like where there is a rock pile and started hitting it with a worm. There are also a couple lay downs on it under the surface so it holds good one sometimes. Picked up on my worm and it was just heavy, thought I was hung so I pulled and it pulled back, set the hook and had on a nice one. Got under the lay down and before I could get to it broke my line. Fished there for another 30 minutes and picked up another slick.

Dark was setting in so I moved out to the lake and started hitting deeper water with a heavy black spinner bait and black worm. Very nice evening but only managed one more on a worm just short again. I left at 10:30. Nice time to be on the water.emoCool Jmax

Great report. I have always loved fishing WT, and used to really load up in Savannah Bay. I just doesn't get nearly the pressure of some other areas.

I think that I know the point that you are talking about Jmax. About 10-12 years ago, when I still fished for bass a little bit, I studied the map of WT a few minutes and concluded that if any bass were in wolftever, they had to be on or just off this point. It was July, hot as usual, and I took a friend to that place. First time that I ever fished it and caught 7 bass around 12-14 feet deep that day. Made me feel good to be able to find a place on the map, go locate it, and then catch bass. I probably haven't fished that point over 5 times the past 10 years. I quit bass fishing and started perch jerking, but that has to be a dynamite spot.

Good report. Brings back good memories.emoAngel emoGeezer
