I hit the lake this evening as I haven't fished at night yet this year. I launced out of HBSP at around 7:30 and there were tons of people heading toward a CBA tourny out of Chester Frost. I figured the lake would be chewed up with bass boats but it wasn't bad at all. I started on some deep humps with no luck so I went into a cove and about passed out when I saw some actual grass, and it was in water deep enough to hold bass. I caught several dinks on a Zoom Horny Toad. Which, if you haven't ever used you should really try them. If you don't like them I will buy the bag from you. As it started to get dark I moved to a long shallow point. Big shad and bass were surfacing everywhere. I caught a few more shorts on a Sammy. I had been slinging a DD22 and a DT10 with no luck as well. Right before dark I decided to tie on some night lures and put on a 1 oz purple spinnerbait with a big Colorado blade. I was still sitting on my deck after tying it and just chunked it out. I started slow rolling it and then just burned it back to the boat. It got absolutely crushed by one of those nice brown bass. Same place that I caught the smallie during the last CFF on Chick. Decided to hit some main lake humps when it got totally dark but the wind really sucked so I went to a protected cove that I haven't really fished in years. It's a classic spot that replenishes itself with fish constantly. I found it around 10 years ago, it's got deep water very close by and is a gently sloping flat. I think that the fish use it as a quick staging area or feeding area before moving further into the cove. I could be wrong but I could fish that 30 yard stretch for hours and keep catching fish. Anyway, I broke off a couple on a C-rig lizard, so I started throwing a T-rig. I lost count of the number of fish I caught between 10:45 and 11:30. Several really good fish, up to about 4 lbs. This is a place that we used to fish and say that if we didn't get a bite in the next 5 casts we'd leave. We always had to stay for several hours, that's why I think that the fish move through the area. Hopefully it will be like that next week. BTW, the weather was perfect tonight.
