chick crappie 2-4-07

Me and my buddy Jeff went out this morning for some crappie. We fished the main river channel ledges in water that varied in depth from 9 ft on top to a drop of 24 ft. Slipfloats and tuffies were the bait today. Fishing was great up till the wind started and the whitecaps rolled in. We managed 27 crappie with 16 keepers. The biggest was 1.5 lbs. We also caught 3 spots and 1 largemouth. 11 bluegills and 2 yellowbass were also caught. We fished from 7:30 till around 2:30.

Nice group of fish! What end of the lake were you fishing? Every one of those fish were black crappies, anyone catching any white crappies? A friend of mine showed me a pic of a crappie that she caught at or near the mouth of the Hiwassee that was a white crappie but the vast majority of the crappies that we've seen on the forum are blacks.

Great report whisler11 - Looks you you all have put the work in and dialed in on a productive pattern! I have been in the emergency room with my daughter this weekend with an eye injury - she got lucky - I hope to be back out on the water next weekend.

Nice stringer full there Whistler11. You guys loaded up on a bunch of fish species this AM.

I went today and got out way too late. The river was whitecapping when i started. Skunkaroo for me.

Hung my $100.00 Aluminum anchor in a tree in Twenty Two feet of water. It took about an hour to pull the tree loose from the bottom with my boat. Then I had to pull that hugh tree to the top of the water to free my Anchor. That was a workout for sure I bent my anchor bad. But at least I got it back.

Sorry to hear about your daughter's eye there David. Hope she is okay.

We normally fish between the mouth of Soddy creek and Harbor lights marina and most of the crappie this fall and winter have been in the main river area. DHaun, very sorry to hear about the accident. I hope everything ends up alright. STEVE
