Went fishing for a few hours this evening with my fishing buddy Jeff. We only caught 20 crappie. 12 keepers and 8 shorts. The biggest was 1.8 lb. All black crappie. Tried a new area today so we didn't catch alot but we had a good time. Slipfloats and minnows fished 4-6 ft deep in open water but near a deep drop off. The water was 52 *. Also got 1 lm, 1 sm, 1 yellowbass, 5 bluegills and a skipjack.

Whistler When i saw this thread pop up on the forum And I saw your name, i knew i was fixin to see a pile of slabs. You are the crappie man. Great going as usual. Thanks for the report even though I am jealous.

Another great report whisler11 - You definitely have a productive method going on - congrats!

I was thinking just now....you either have a freezer the size of my garage or you all are eating crappie for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! emoTongue Great job!

I have given away 10-12 bags of boneless fillets to several good friends at work and Jeff has a couple of elderly neighbors that get 1-2 bags a week also. I deep fry ours outside in peanut oil maybe once a week. emoHungry . I have relatives coming down in June from Iowa to spend a week and catch some bluecats. They want a fish fry but they want crappie instead of cats, so I'll have to save some for them. emoBigsmile

Makes sense to me - The only thing better than eating a mess of crappie is seeing someone else enjoy what you have caught!

Last time I had a fish fry it was great! I had a house full of starved buzzards crowded in the kitchen scratching around for fresh fish, but there's always one or two organic tree hugger free-range birkenstock hippies that refuse to eat the fish - they told me the fish were contaminated with pollutants and I had no clue what was spilled into the River via Wolftever creek. I told them there were no consumption advisories on the chick - not even for catfish. They still refused, so I told them the only other thing I had they could eat was microwaved pepperoni hot pockets emoTongue Sad thing is, that was the truth!

Way to go whisler! You guys are just too dang good with those slabs up there! What did some of those weigh? They looked like they were really fat and healthy.

Dhaun I had the same thing happen to me. My niece came up as I was pulling in at Harrison Bay this fall and asked how we did. I told her that we had caught some. She gave me a look of horror and said "You don't actually eat those things do you"? You just gotta laugh.

We usually get a total weight and the individual larger fish weight but I just weighed the largest one tonight. I'm guessing 4 over 1 lb. and several just under 1 lb, with a few 10 1/2 inchers tossed in too. I do remember that last sun. evening we had 15 fish with 15 lbs. total weight.
