Decided on the spur of the moment to go fishing today. FA was sitting with Grandkids so I went alone. Launched in Soddy Creek about 11:00 am. Checked out my pet fish first, but they didn't want to play. Went out to the river and tried a point north of Sequoyah with no luck. Went slowly across the river because a cruiser was passing by. As I came up onto a flat from the river channel, I noticed some structure in about 10 feet of water with fish on it. I turned around and marked the edge and started throwing a c-rigged worm. After a few casts, I switched to a deep little N. I noticed my marker was drifting so I picked it up. I started trolling with my trolling motor along the edge of the channel. After a pass downstream, I turned around and went upstream. After just a few yards, I thought I got hung up, but NO! it was a fish! A BIG fish! I had hopes it was a huge bass, but those hopes faded shortly. Turns out it was a drum hooked on the gill cover so it had some side leverage on me. At least I got to try out my new $14.99 Cabelas fish gripper. They work great. It was nice not having to stick my thumb in her mouth with that crankbait swinging around. It pulled the scale down to about 13 lbs.

Drum King & FA, eat your heart out!

I did catch 6 bass today, all short. The rain ran me off the lake. I got soaked at the ramp.

Side issue: I've been having an intermittent problem with my power trim/tilt. At the ramp I raised my engine for loading and the tilt stopped. In the past, If I would bump it down, it has always raised on up. Not this time!!

I loaded my boat and hoped the engine was high enough not to drag. When I got it up on dry land, I had about 2 inches of ground clearance.

I called Glen Gamble, the "Outboard Doc" and he told me which relays to tap on to get it to work. Success!! I swung by and got the relays replaced on the way home. Cell phones sure come in handy sometimes.

BTW, the picture is the first time I used the timer on my camera. I tested it by placing the camera on the back seat and taking a practice shot.

I sure hate it when you go by yourself. However, I bet I had more fun than you did... 3 of the grandkids were at my house and boy did we have fun....we played "Al Father, you need a complete make over,,,finger nail polished, facial,etc"..... Nice fish ...emoPoke that looks just like my small mouth ... you done good with the picture taking. I am impressed. emoScratch

I sure love the grandkids....

HAHA! Funny one MB. Do any of you all eat the drum, or do you let it go? I caught one outta Weiss one time, filleted it, and my aunt and uncle said that it was quite a tasty little fish.

Nice pic and great looking fish. ;)

LOL I know what you are thinking, but when I filleted it out, it was a very clean and very white fish. The meat almost looked like crappie meat. Of course, the one that I filleted out for them was only like 5 lbs. or so. emoCool

I'm sure I have eaten a drum but it was a looong time ago. I don't remember how the fish tasted.

Funny story: When my family moved from Louisville, Ky in Oct 1952 to Watts Bar Village, My Grandfather took me fishing in Watts Bar lake for the first time. It was walk down the hill. I had a cane pole and some redworms. I was 9 years old. I caught a carp of about 2-3 pounds. To me it was a giant. We took that sucker home, cleaned, cooked and ate it. The only detail I remember was it had a lot of bones! But, I was determined to eat my first catch. Moral: Grandfathers will do just about anything for their Grandkids, right, FA?

I'm not going to tell how Fat Albert handles a drum! But you can see by his emoticon how he feels about them.emoLaugh

thanks, for not telling... people would get the wrong impression of me.... and by looking at your post, I see you were up real early this morning.. I hope you and Hal catch a big'unemoRolleyes emoGeezer

MB ... I'm thinking with all the la-de-dahing they did on Fat Albert ... you ought to get over there and take some pictures! I'd sure like to see how well his grandkids fixed him up! :)

You did fine with the timer thing too! Everything important is in the picture!

35 years ago I ate drum that was about 1 or 2 pounds. From what I remember, it tasted a little like bass. We just release the ones we catch. We are trying to grow them up so that we can beat Benny.

Did you take the pearls out of the head of the drum when you cleaned it?

FA, you sure will look "sweet" calling a guy out at the plate or pulling the trigger on a big "STRIKE THREE" with your nails pollished......hoped the kids picked a good color.....somethin in the orange tint!!
