Hey Guys!
Finally getting to make trip number 2 this year to Chick and I'm pumped! Quick question, are you guys finding better concentrations of fish main lake or pockets/creeks? I want to find some active mats, but was hoping you guys could shrink the pond a little for me before I get there!
Thanks!

I'm having the same issue! I can tell you we have caught few fish on main lake pockets. I have been seeing more on the main channel fishing.

This is just a weird year. By now they should be hot and heavy in the grass all the way back in the pockets, bays and creeks. Here we are looking at November and that just has not happened. emoDoh The lake has been a year behind all summer and now I would say it is over a month behind. They are just now showing up in force in the back areas. But the issue is a lot of the grass on top is gone. emoSorry The coots have showed up by the 100s and a big flock of coots can take out a whole mat really fast. There are a couple places I was catching some good fish in the grass along the river and the mats are totally gone! Waves, boats, coots, sun, wind have all played a roll in making that happen. We needed cool weather to move the bait, then the bass back into those places and it has been way too hot.

The only good things I can come up with is there is some grass still not exposed and the lake still has about two foot to drop. Then I will say I am finally seeing some bass show up in the back waters shallow in the grass. Best thing is to just keep moving until you find an active mat where the bass are working. Then try and get them to commit to eating your bait. Really frustrating when you have big bass just come up under your bait and bump it or lift the mat up without eating it. You will have more slaps and misses then you will have them eating it. Reactions strikes are your best bet. If you have to have two rods rigged with a frog. Then if you have another rod out and a bass busts on something by you, pick the other up really quickly and cast it on top of the bust. emoGeezer Good luck on your trip, let us know how it goes. i have found alot of fish in grass mats close to deep water and in grass submurged in about 4 to 8 feet

Cool. I know it's a personal preference kind of thing, but do the fish seem to be hotter on the north side, side south, or mid lake? Just curious as to opinions.

I found bass in every mat I fished today . From 5ft to 2ft deep . Main lake , pockets and in the back of coves . They are all up in the grass or around grass . I think the biggest issue has been the water temps aren't telling the fish to feed up for the fall. No real urge to go crazy and eat all day since the weather has stayed warm . They ate good today ! Between my client and I , we landed over 20 bass . No giants but everything was at least a keeper . It was fun ! Everything was on frogs .

I agree I was seeing water temps in the mid 70's when I was out sat. Is this November or May?????? Been a weird year, really fast warm up and very slow cool down.

This morning we were around Chester Frost and the bass were ready! Caught a 4lber on a frog on about the third cast. My buddy missed a couple on a frog and changed over to a senko and caught one on the first cast. We had 8 in about half an hour and should have been more. I missed three and one of those was big. My buddy had 2 break his line on the senko. I tried to warn him, but he liked the action with the lighter line. He learned his lesson and changed over to a rod with braid.

Then, the wind changed and they quit. We threw everything we had and fished everywhere between Harrison Bay and Soddy Lake. We tried flats, mats, docks, pockets and ledges. Nada, zilch, etc. There was no current or it was so small that it let the wind blow us up stream. I haven't found the trick to catching them in the channel without current.
Take the good with the bad. It was a beautiful day to be out and the bite was fun while it lasted.

If you're trying to fish ledges , you are waisting a lot of time . Not many , if any are out on deeper ledges this time of year .

We fished pockets yesterday and had a great day on the water. Ended up catching around 20. Majority of which were 4-5 lbs. As far as size was the best day I've had down there this year. Ended up with just shy of 25 lbs
