Launched out of HBSP around 9:00. Ran South on water as smooth as glass and fished Big Ridge Marina with Pointers and Zoom Dead Ringers. 2jigs and I had some luck there last week. Caught a 14 1/2 " Spot on the Pointer along with some smaller fish. Ran farther South to look for something bigger. Fished a seawall with 2jig's funkified Dead Ringer and got slammed by a nice Smallmouth. I was trying out a new St.Croix spinning rod and it couldn't have been broken in miuch better. After fighting it for about a minute I was able to get it aboard. 19 1/2 inches and weighing in at around 4 1/2 lbs. Caught it in 12 ft of water. The bite slowed after a couple of small Spots. Ran back to Big Ridge Marina and caught 2 more keeper Spots, (less than 15') and a bunch of smaller fish. Got a call from Biofisher. He was wanting to do some fishing with his son. Told him I'd meet him back at the ramp. Got out on the river and in the time I spent back at Big Ridge, the water went to 1 foot swells to 4 and 5 ft rollers. Not good in my little Bee. The waves were coming in all directions and I managed to spear two waves, getting soaked in the process. Eventually made it back to HBSP where Biofisher decided that it was a bit too turbulent to be on the water, and he has a big ol Ranger too. Got the picture taken, released the fish to fight another day, put the boat on the trailer and headed home. Water temps were from 48 to 51 degrees Felt colder than that after being drenched twice.
