[Pointer 78]

Got on the water around 9:30. The local weatherman forcast winds of 5-10 mph. WRONG! Wind speeds were a constant 15-20 with higher gusts. I wanted to target some humps and points. Found a few points that offered some protection from the wind. The only lure I had luck on was a Pointer 78 in the American Shad color. I managed 15-20 fish with 2 of them being board fish but no keepers. Water was colder so they had to be fished slower. Letting it sit still for 15-20 seconds was the ticket. Only fished for about 5 hours. The sky clouded up and the bite died. Ready for some football tomorrow.

Crappie or bass Pointer? Dhaun and myself went this morning for a couple of hours and didn't even manage a bite. Cold, windy and extremely slow. We were attempting to catch some papermouths.

HEY POINTER, JUST THOUGHT I WOULD THROW AN IDEA AT YOU. MY PARTNER CAUGHT SOME KEEPERS THE OTHER DAY ON A TRAP CROME/BLUE IN FIVE FOOT OF WATER. HE FOUND DITCH IN A SHALLOW FLAT ACROSS FROM DRY BRANCH AND THE WATER TEMP WAS 53. NOW THAT THIS COLD FRONT HAS COME THROUGH IT PROBABLY SCREWED UP THAT PATTERN. I ALSO HEARD SOMEBODY WEIGHED IN 16lbs IN THE TOURNEY I FISH OUT OF GRASSHOPPER LAST SATURDAY. I WAS OUT OF TOWN BUT MY SOURCES ARE RELIABLE. I ALSO KNOW THE GUY THAT WON AND HE IS TRAP FREAK AS LONG AS THE WATER IS MOVING AND AROUND 47 TO 52 DEGREES. JUST AN IDEA. NOT BEEN ON THE WATER IN TWO WEEKS BUT LAST TIME I DID GOOD WITH A FAT ALBERT GRUB ON CLIFFS IN 12' TO 18' OF WATER SUSPENDED, WATER TEMP 47.

Pointer you should have known if the weather service was calling for light and variable winds (which they were) that it would be gale force! Sounds like you did great for what you had to deal with.

They were mostly small FF but they kept me interested. I hadn't fished the American Shad colored Pointer this year. Long pauses after a twitch or two helped. The fish were holding tight against the rocks in 15 -20 ft of water.

Great report Pointer, we were talking about what the bass might be doing at the Fisherman's Feast at Wolftever. I need to get comfortable with fishing with jerkbaits some day. Maybe next week will be the time. Thanks for the info.

Thanks MADD DOG. I like to throw Traps, (except on Guntersville) when the water's a little warmer. I couldn't find any water warmer than 43 degrees yeasterday.
