Didn't get out until 10:30am but still had some cloud cover so, started out shallow. Explored some new territory(thanks Jmax) not far from a drop that I fish frequently. The water as everyone else has said was way down and didn't think that so late in the morning anything would be shallow but went for it anyway. Did catch some 2+ lbers on a chug bug and a buzz bait in shallow grass next to 12+ feet of water. The sun came out and didn't get another bite in the shallow grass other than from one 10 incher. While the cloud cover held I did see two different jumps/schooling activity, that were very short lived but did catch one after they had gone down. Don't know if they had moved off or me switching my motor to high to get to the area put them down or not. Fished a deep drop off a flat that I frequent but didn't get a hit. Went to the Hixson side and just knew that the spots must still be in the area that I've written about before where the river comes up to the bank and then moves away from the bank forming an eddie. Anyway, couldn't get them to come up so I went to plan B. Found a shallow flat off Pinky's point that had schools of shad on the surface and cast up some shad. Went back to the eddie area and chummed up some fish. I had never done it before but have read about it in Florida Sportsman Mag for anything from tuna to snook. Works for bass too! Just took a handfull of shad, squished them just a bit and threw them into the area. In just a minute I had bass busting the shad on the surface. Maybe it was coincidence but nothing moved on the top until I threw in the baits. It was 1:00pm by that time and most everywhere was pretty dead. Once the fish came up I threw my chug bug at them and hooked up. It was great. Caught a few that way but they really wanted the free meals more than my lure. Caught five or six more on a fluke doing the same thing. Fun to try something new and for it to work. Not squishing too hard is one of the things that takes getting used to. Too much squishin' and there's no action to 'em and too little squishin' and they swim down and get away.
