I really just wanted to get out today and test the trim on my boat (I thought the trim pump might be going out) and tune some crankbaits. I quickly grew board with tuning cranks and just decided to fish a little.
I stayed in Grasshopper for the first two hrs and only caught one little LM. I then ran out of the creek and hit a little main lake pocket. In the first five minutes I had boated 3 right at the mouth of the pocket. I worked back and couldn't get any more takers so I headed out and worked a section of main lake bank with a good mix of rock, wood, docks and boathouses. I pulled two more off of this bank and headed for the ramp. Considering how slow the initial 2 hrs were, I felt pretty good that I had boated 5 more in just an hr and a half. The largest - and only keeper - was a 15 3/4" (2.5lbs????) Spot out on that main lake stretch.
All fish were caught on a metallic parrott colored 1/4 oz lipless crank. I threw a lot of baits today - diving crank, SB, buzzbait, TW walking bait, jerkbait, and jig - but the rattle bait was the only thing I could get any takers on.
TVA dropped the bottom out of the lake. It was waaaaay down. Water temp in Grasshopper was 61 ... water temp in the pocket was 63 ... and main lake temp was 62. Shad were everywhere in Grasshopper, but they weren't being bothered too much. Hopefully things will start to stabilize soon ...
