Hello All, new here. Fished today and thought I would share the results. Fished sloughs of the main river. Caught 5 largemouth on 5/16 oz Eakins Jig w/ Yamamoto Fat Baby Craw. Black & Blue. Largest was a chunky 3.5 lbs. Rest were 1-2 lbs. Let me tell you it was very chilly out there!

Weclome RRB32! What part/section of the river were you fishing? About what depth did you catch them? I'm trying tonight below the Dam...looks like it's going to be cold.

Put in at Bluewater Campground. Fished that area down through there, then fished summerfield up the river a little, then down near the garrison area. Most were in about 5-10 foot of water.

Great to have you RRB32. I don't know where Bluewater, summerfield or garrison are. I went to your site. It looks good. I take it that the areas that you are talking about are up the river. Many smallies up there? I would expect less pressured fish up there as compared to down here near the Choo Choo. Do you fish that part of the lake most of the time? Is the grass pretty thick up there in the summer? Has there been much grass up there the last few years? Just wondering. Some is finally coming back to the Harrison bay area but no milfoil as of yet. Thanks for the info.

Hey there polo, I would say that the area I fish is in the "middle" of the whole system. Not way up river and not down near your end. I do catch a smallmouth every now and then but they are few and far between. Most of them are more upriver. And Yes, this is usually where I do all my fishing at, however I do venture up below the dam sometimes. There arent as much weeds around now that are noticeable. During the summer, however, milfoil was heavily abundant. It was all over the place and thick at that. During the summer I fished near a line of milfoil on the main river that was on a sort of current break and had access to deep water. I tore the bass up here all summer. I found a couple other places that mimicked this area that kept me satisfied throughout the summer.

That sounds great, I can't wait for the grass to get back down here like it was in the late 80's or in 90 when I moved here. grass keeps the fish shallower and more consistently shallow. I like to take friends out that don't fish much and when the fish are deep I tend to resort to live bait because it's easier to fish deep that way for beginners than it is with artificials. With them shallow it would give them more confidence earlier and give them a better time. There's nothing worse than taking someone fishing, wanting them to hook up with a bunch and go out there and them not catch much and me haul them in like crazy. Not the way to win friends and influence people.emoScratch
