Well, I've finally gotten a chance to check out the Sequoyah discharge area; generally, good results.
Monday I had several small largemouth on a baby Spook and a small Rapala minnow worked on top, all in the discharge area. Later, I drifted a C-Rig around Dallas bay and drifted up a 17 inch largemouth--a nice fish (I think it was the largest bass I've had from the Chick). Anyway, my grandmother thought it was delicious--she loves largemouth fillets.
I fished around Skull Island without a single strike (C-rig) although the bottom felt interesting. Sonar marked plenty of fish in a small area.
Today, my dad and I hit Sequoyah early, but didn't start catching much until about 8 am. Several caught on top with Rapala minnow, none on spooks, several decent bass (spots, I think) on a small YUM craw in 18 feet, and a couple of bass on a Little George at the same depth. First time I've ever had success with a Little George tailspinner--but I made a couple of 'special modifications' to it. It stunk when it got hung on the bottom. I need to find some heavier ones (all I had was a quarter ounce one) to fish deeper in the current.
I hope I'll get to go out a few more times before classes crank up on the 21st.
