Got out at around 10 or 11 am. It rained off and on and didn't get very warm today but I still had a great time. Bass fished most of the time but only caught one keeper. Did learn some things today however. The keeper came from a brushpile that I found while fishing the drop near the spot where I caught that four pounder a few weeks ago. I figured that the fish, if they would bite would be in deeper water as the shallower points that I had fished didn't have any fish that I could see with my electronics or catch with multilple baits. I happened on the brush pile with a jig and pig, it was in 12 feet of water and far off shore. I threw out a bouy and must have cast to it 10 or 15 times before I snagged the fish. She was about 2lbs. I had never thrown multiple times to a deep brush pile as usually I don't have the smarts to throw out a bouy, but since nothing else was working I figured that there had to be a fish in that pile. She finally bit on a zoom finesse worm. I found two new points that have great feeling "stuff" on them and they will hold fish sometime because they are in perfect spots and have great cover on them. The last thing that I found was the end of a roadbed that crossed a creek and the bridge portion was taken out before impoundment of the lake. The roadbed itself is ~15 feet on top and drops straight off into 23 to 26 feet of water. There is rubble on the lip of the drop and fish were on the drop but they just wouldn't bite today. Some day they will I would wager. I finished up the day fishing for crappie, bluegills and stripe with minners. Wolftever creek was 47-48 degrees and the warmest water was in Harrison bay boat dock slough at 49+. I wish that I could have gone yesterday as I would have expected the shallows to be warmed by that sun. There was much more activity in Wolftever creek today, much more than two weeks ago, even though the water wasn't warmer. Lots of schoold of fish that I would expect are crappies in the 8-10 foot range mostly over flats > 10 feet deep. Trolling baits 8ft deep may have been the crappie pattern for the day as there were tons of fish out there. Most of the fish on my depth finder that looked like bass were suspended and in at least 12 feet of water. There were gulls chasing shad in the backs of some of the Harrison bay sloughs but I saw only stripe following my rattletrap. I did have what felt like hits from bigger fish but they didn't hook up. I would expect that 1-2 days of warm sunshine and the bass would be all over those shallow shad.

Good point, I just try to learn as much as I can every time I go. I hope that I'm getting to be a better fisherman but I guess that only time will tell. Wow, fifteen forum users at once, that's a record for me.

Yea, it's getting where even the "New Posts" link is a chore to keep up with if you don't show up regularly. I'm not complaining mind you... but just think what it's going to be like in the future. DHaun, you've creating a monster! emoEvil

Maybe in the future we can all plan to post fishing outings by day only, or by lake only, or by species, but if we do it by day only then we can probably sift through the posts better. Does anyone else have any ideas. I've never really put much thought into it before. You can tell that by my posts right?

DHaun, I'm almost sure that what I'm marking is crappies because of the posts from others and the size and shape of the fish that I'm marking and most of the time when I mark bluegills they tend to be hugging the bottom and not in suspended schools. I need to get out there and soak some minnows and verify what they are I guess but they seem to be at the level that is consistent with rsimms and others' posts.
