Decided to call in well today. Caseload's down. Why the heck not? Wanted to fish with a lure that I haven't used in a while. It's probably one of my top 3 favorites to fish. You don't catch many big ones, but it's great for numbers. It's a bubblegum trick worm. Some would say its pink. I tell my wife, "No honey. Really, it's bubblegum." She laughs at me anyway. The trick worm proved once again that it is great for numbers. Musta caught 30 buck bass. I launched out of Skull Island around 8:00 this morning. Ran to a couple of spawning areas just to see if they were there. They were. In spades. I don't like fishing beds unless I'm in a tournament. I did catch all the smaller bass in 3-5 ft of water away from the spawning flats. After tiring of catching the little ones, I ran to an area that always pays off with larger fish. Started pitching a black/brown jig with a green pumpkin Paca Chunk trailer to chunk rock. Ended up with 4 keepers but none particularly big. Largest was just short of 4 lbs. Total weight was 10.6 lbs. Dodged a couple of small storms today. Saw one other boat all day. Put the boat on the trailer at 4:30.

What type of situation do you throw your bubble gum worm into to do so well? I tend to think of throwing them when the fish are around shallow cover and because it's so light it's hard to throw very far. How do you normally fish it?

I have to agree Pointer. That is one of my all time favorite lures. You can outfish your partner 10-1 during the summer. I fish them on spinning gear with a swivel around a foot above the worm. I use either a 1/0 or 2/0 hook. It is absolutely awesome when the sun is very bright and you skip it under docks or around shallow cover. I never leave without one tied on.

I like to wacky rig the bubble gum trick worm and I use the weighted mister twister keeper hooks and cut the keeper part off. It is great for skipping under low hanging trees and docks. Now I will have to try the spike-it.

Polo, I use a 2/0 hook on 12# Trilene XT line. And shallow cover is exactly where I throw it most of the time. The water was so clear yesterday that they got a good look at it even in deeper water. I have no problem throwing a trick worm on a Curado baitcasting reel. I tend to use an Owner hook. These are a bit heavier than your standard hook. I stopped throwing this rig on spinning gear. Too much line twist even with a barrel swivel.
