Chickamauga 51 lb Flathead 3-23

Chick blue cats getting better, I caught 3 about 36" today, but I had taken a young man from near Nashville with me and he caught his personal best cat - a flathead that weighed 51 lb 1 oz! It was only (?) 44 inches long but was fat enough to explode! The pictures just don't do it justice, but that was one happy young man!

Nice fish. Man those flatheads are some ugly fish, but fun to catch.

Yes, this on picked up cut skipjack, again being bounced on the bottom. It was in the same place that I caught a 45" flathead last spring, and in 38-40 feet of water!

that is a VERY nice flathead!!
do you catch many on cut-bait?...i thought they were more of a live bait fish.

I catch a few on cut bait, but I bounce the bait on the bottom as I drift and that may make the difference. I usually don't target flathad specifically, I don't know enough about where or how.

I have caught quite a few on cut bait in the spring and fall.....it helps if it is fresh and moving some.....if you have some current i like to use large fillets or in heavy current even the heads and big chunks do fine.

That's a nice fat flatty.
