Jerdog and I decided to see how the Sequoyah area was doing and got on the water about 5:30pm. We immediately started looking for some threadfin and could not find any in the slough adjacent to the plant. We decided to check the windblown side of the river next and finally found some in the shallows of the ski club - Jeremy netted a bucket full.

We headed out to the nuke and had anywhere from 3-5 rods out drifting shad at different depths. There was some great current flow and we made at least 5 passes trying to locate some fish. We had a couple good tugs on the line but no takers (probably skipjack). Finally we hooked a nice Largemouth looking to be about 2 lbs and a small drum. The current let up after a while and although we were marking fish the bite was just not on for us...emoScratch

We decided to do a bit of trolling for crappie after that and caught 5-6 trolling chartruese jigs in 4-8 ft of water. Looks like the crappie are starting to move up into the shallows. All fish were safely released and we left around 10pm.

DHaun, did you guys see a band of fish over the turbulent water over fifty feet? Last time I was out there there was a band of fish at about 20-25 feet of water and if I counted the shad down to about that level I got hits right away. The fish seemed to be just up current from the outflow out front of Sequoyah. It was small blue cats but we hooked some bigger fish but never got them in.

Yes Polo-Dog, we saw a band of fish at that depth on occasion but they were also sporadically on bottom and as shallow as 10 ft. We dangled the shad buffet at all levels trying to keep it where we saw fish and got a few hits but nothing really chomped down like a hungry cat would. Last time I was there I also caught a few cats at that depth but they were not very interested last night for some reason. It's still a fun pattern to catch bait and drift like that, you never know what might hit.

Have you ever fished it in the Winter?

It is a blast to see something on your "fish finder", put a bait down to it and get a bite. I had an experience today like that. Lots of fish on the bottom and put bait down and caught the blues and spots. A hit on almost every drop late this morning. If you would like a pic of where I found them I'd be glad to send one to you. When they are on the bottom it's easier to get to the exact depth. Otherwise you have to ball park it with counting the bait down and hope that it's about right. A foot a second, plus or minus is what seems about right to me for most weights, a little faster drop when I get more than 1/2oz of weight. I think that suspended fish tend to be less active than the fish on the bottom too. I have never fished over the deep water in the winter. I have fished other areas near by however.
