Got out finally from 6pm to 8pm. Fished a drop in WT without a hit but as I pulled away there were tons of bait balls on the edge of the channel with bigger fish below them. I had already decided to leave the creek but may try the channel edge tomorrow morning with a deep spinnerbait or a crankbait. Fished the end of a roadbed and there were lots of some species stacked there on the drop from 18 to 25 feet of water. Got one good hit there but it broke me off on the hookset, that's what I get for using 12 lb test. No hits there on 1oz spinnerbait but it sure felt good and stayed deep. Thanks RR. Had the hit with a 7 inch worm. Only fish that spot for very limited periods of time during the day as it's right out where everyone can see and want it to stay a secret as long as possible. Went to another roadbed and bass were schooling on top of it. Caught one on a rattlin' chug bug and another on the 1 oz spinnerbait, ripping it along in the 5-7 feet of water. RR made me up a few heavy spinnerbaits a couple of weeks ago and they worked great. Chart/white with a nickel and gold #4 willows. It drops like a rock, casts like a bullet and I can fish it in 20 feet of water and keep it down without having to go too slow. I also can cover a lot of water with it as compared to one that is smaller. I fished it like a crankbait on a 10 foot flat that had a bunch of bait on it and it felt really good and kept good contact with the bottom. Finished up fishing a grass bed at dusk and caught a few more there, some on a 3/8 oz spinnerbait, some on a chug bug and had a few blowups an buzzbaits. Had a great time and caught 8 fish between 13 and 15 inches. Beautiful night on the water! Still warm at dusk, I love the fall! I hope to get out in the morning with my buddy FishnFool if he can make it.
