Here's some not so great camera phone pictures from this past weekend on Chickamauga. After hearing how good it's being lately I had to find out for myself. I fished with my friend Dan's brother-in-law, Jay Saturday afternoon. We didn't start catching them until an hour before dark. I had 2 keeper largemouths but they both were around 5lbs each. We also had a few spots, nothing big, on jerkbaits and shad raps.
Sunday morning I fished with my good friend Dan. We put in at Possum Cr. and headed up river. I caught one about 3lbs right off the bat on the back side of a river bar on RC 1.5. About an hour later I lost a big fish on a 3/4 red trap that I couldn't catch up with. 10 minutes later I caught a 5 lber on the big plug off a shallow rock point. Dan had to be back around 11 so I said we couldn't leave with out him catching a 5 lber. 3 casts later with my old rebel crawfish CB he catches the one around 6 lbs in no more than a 1' of water. Back to Chesterfrost I put in by myself to make the run to Wolftever to pick up my dad. On the way across I had time to stop and fish for awhile. With the sun now out and no breeze I began chunking 1/2oz jig on deep clay/chunk rock bank and hooked a monster. I swear it was 8 lbs +! It never came out of the water but I got to see one quick flash and she was gone. Wasn't really prepared for that one I guess. I can't ever keep 'em hooked on a football jig. 3 casts later and a 2nd chance I catch the 1 around 7 lbs. This was a place I have never fished before. I would never had stopped here in a dogfight, tournament, or practice. It pays to just go fish and learn new water!
So with dad in the boat around 1:00 we fished deep, shallow, and inbetween without any more keepers till he had to leave at 5. A few more stops before dark I caught keeper # 5 on the rebel crankbait about 2.75 lbs.
Not many bites for us, but the quality was great this past weekend. It's awesome to have such a great reasource right in our back yard! Sorry for the delayed post.
