Me (WLG) and Troy ( MonsterCat ) Got out to the Chick this morning with some freinds of ours tagging along in their boat to show them how to catch some blues. My freind ( Keith ) has been drag racing for about 10 years and has decided to give it up and start fishing. He wanted to get out and see how to bait up for these big fish ( and little ones too). So off we went around 7 am this morning in search of some cats. Troy first fished me with a very nice TARP Blue...weighing 40 lbs and 40 inches long! After that a couple smaller 10 and 15 lbers were caught and then I GOT MY REVENGE!!!!!. I hooked into this 51 inch long...34 inch Girth..beautiful 78 lb Blue Catfish!!! I would have sworn it was MUCH bigger. I have never in my life fought a fish this hard. I have had battles just as long as this ( 30 minutes) but its always been on 20 to 30 lb line and a smaller rod. This one came on my saltwater rod and reel with 80 lb PowerPro Braid!!! I could not move this fish off the bottom for about 20 minutes. It would just swim back and forth...and then go round and round the boat. I mean I was putting as much pressure on him as I dared to...afraid of it getting down there and getting under something!. But finally I WON and got him along side the boat. I had just bought a new net at Sportsmans yesterday...and boy am I glad I did!!!! Keith kinda looked at me funny yesterday when he saw me buying that net ( as well as the rest of the folks in the store)...But I think I proved to him today...why its VERY handy to have A big net when landing a fish of this size and temperment. Actually the 40 lber that Troy caught was MUCH meaner than my 78. It bit the crap out of him several times and it fought very hard as well!!! We weighed the thing about 5 times as I would have SWORN it was MUCH MUCH bigger than 78 lbs...but it is what it is...and if you do the math it comes out to be about right. We ended up with 10 blues today ranging from 8 to 78 lbs and then went down and hit a couple docks and a bluff and came home with 2 keeper crappie...one was 13 inches and the other a TARP ( my 3rd TARP Crappie) at 14 inches. Gonna briol them on the grill tonight for supper!!!emoHungry It was a GREAT day to say the least!!! Good to be back home and out on the water chasin that 100 lber. Its coming folks.....and I got a feelin its gonna be soon!! Heres a couple pictures.....sorry about the quality...but all we had was a cell phone camera.

Way to go Wade. Between you, southerncats, and ericm this spring, there have been some very big blues posted and that 100 can't be far off. Maybe this late fall?

Awesome

Isn't it funny how you go out showing someone how to "do it" and you slam a huge one like that! Gotta love it. Good for you Wade. Hope to see that 100lb'er soon! Tell me you didn't laugh when that 40lber bit him...

WOW AWSOME JOB I WISH I WOULD HAVE WENT YESTERDAY emoBang .WE WILL HAVE TO GET TOGETHER AND GO GET SOM BAIT, SEE YOU AT WORK.

How old do you guys think a fish like this 78 lber would be??? Ive heard of these fish being 30 yrs or older. I read that SPLASH...the previous world record holder was only 21 ( at 121 lbs) !!! Just wondering????

Lots of opinions on this Wade. I have heard that a 34" fish will be 20 years old. I find that hard to believe. I wish that someone would do some good research on blue cats. </p>
