Caught 15 Cats yesterday fishing from 8:30 to noon. Doing real good till about 10:30 when the current quit as did the fish. Only caught 3 more from then till noon. They ranged from 3lbs on down. Fishing rocky banks with a worm under a float 3 foot deep.emoToast

There has been so much talk about catfishing on here .. I just may have to try it. Although I've caught them in the past ... I have preferred not to since upgrading fishing to include different fish with different patterns and due to the amount of gunk associated with them. Too bad there isn't such a thing as slim guard! :-(

BUT ... I just WONDER what its like to pull in a 53 pounder!!! Polo might provide an inspiration ... when I read about his big fish .. little line challenge it peaked my interest!!!

The only real serious catfishing I used to do was when I lived in Dallas and my girlfriend and I went to a catfish farm. My largest take for the day was over $200 in fish!!! Caught on pork kidneys and chicken livers. I have some pics .. but that was WAY before digitals. Gosh .. I'm getting old.

Anyway ... I'm thinking it's time to go back to some old fishing goals! Maybe!

Looks like all channels. We catch a lot of channels in spring fishing for bass on crawfish type baits and even crankbaits in shallow water (less than 10 feet). The channels in my experience fight harder than blues on a pound for pound basis but the blues get a lot bigger. The biggest channel I have caught this year was 10 lbs.

Has anyone on the forum caught any large channel cats in Nickajack? I have never seen a channel larger than 10 lbs from Nickajack.

Good fishing!. It is good to know the channels are still in shallow water as they have left the holes that we fish for blues. We have not caught a channel in over a week fishing for blues.

I started catching cats early in May during that hot weather we had. Then came the cool spell and they left. The water temp was 76 yesterday when I put in. According to hoyle they spaw between 75 and 85 degrees. They should be around a while longer if you can stand to fish in this hot weather. I was kinda glad they quit biting early yesterday.emoLaugh
