A little late. My buddy Jeff and I caught 46 keepers most of which came off of a brush pile in 8 foot of water on the edge of a creek channel. Caught them on a 1/16oz crappie stinger in black w/chart tail and a couple of minnows. The biggest fish was 15 inches.

Thanks for the report paulj! Sounds like a great day of crappie fishing! When you are fishing brush piles with jigs for crappie do you fish it vertically jigging the lures or do you cast jigs to the sides of it keeping the boat a distance away? Is there a method you use to reduce getting hung up on the brush?

I start out casting from a distance and when they quit bitting I will move in close and do some verticle jigging with grubs and with minnows. This one well placed brush pile is absolutely loaded with crappie right now. I am going in the morning to get a few more for the freezer.

I am glad they are cutting the numbers back. For some reason I keep getting suckered into cleaning all of the fish and then my buddy comes by and picks his up later. I think that my dogs are the only ones that enjoy me cleaning the fish. The taste of crappie is well worth it.

Nice catch paul. Now I know why your number was on my caller ID the other day. Sorry bro but I was in Missouri all week. I'm off all this week if you want to go one day. I need to make some kind of fishing report soon or David might disown me.emoLaugh emoLaugh

Cheez, I know the feeling...I need to make a report myself! I don't know of any good submerged brushpiles and I think it's a bit early for trolling but I'm hoping to get a few for a family fish fry sometime in the next few months.

That 15 incher is mighty impressive. I have never caught one over 13 so that would be a big deal for me. They grow em big down south don't they?

Nice catch, Paul. Looks like I need to quit striper fishing and get back to crappie fishing. emoGeezer

Crappie stinger is a kind of a grub. Instead of having a tail that twirls it is straight. I have found that I have better luck on grubs that have straight tails that dont twirls or move. Cheez, I am open for Tuesday. Give me a call.
