Paulj and I had a good day crappie fishing on the Chick. We had about a 50/50 day of keepers and throw backs. 23 quality crappie, and a couple of keeper white bass. Air temp was about 32 in the morning and into the 50's in the afternoon. Water temp stayed around 50 all day. They all came from a variety of artificial baits, jigs of various sizes and weights and tiny traps. The predominant colors were black/chartruse and red/yellow/yellow. We did however catch some fish on several other colors. They were mostly suspended 8 to 16 feet deep in much deeper water near the river channel.
Some fish were caught right on the bottom in 15 to 18 feet of water. We also caught bluegill all day long too. We met crazyhorse on the water today who was catfishing and we donated some of the gills to him for bait. Nice to meet other CFFers on the water and as usual crazyhorse was true to the nice guy persona of the CFF family.
I also caught a 16 pound drum on a Kahlin's 2" black/blue/chartruse grub on a 1/16 oz red minnow head with 4 pound Mr. Crappie line (tough stuff). The fish was suspended in 35 feet of water and hit on about the 10 count down. Tons of fun!
We did not have as good of a day crappie fishing as Paul usually does and I attributed it to the fact that I did not have any UGA clothing on.emoLaugh
Paul has some pics so maybe when he wakes up he will post them.

sounds like you all had a "crappie" day. Thanks for the report Cheez. You guys are making me jealous, I have to work, and you guys get to catch fish. I'll have my day soon enough.

Thanks for the kind words Cheez. My reputation needs all the help it can get!! Thanks also for the bluegill. Those that were not used were released into the pond where I catch my "bait", so the pond broke even today.
Always good to meet fellow CFFers out on the water, and it is happening more frequently as this thing picks up steam (and members). The pleasure was mine, Till next time......

Way to go Cheez. We still need to get up to Watts Bar soon.

Thanks

Cheez

A little late but between work and getting ready for the New Years day tourney on nickajack i have not had the time. The fish did not bite well at all but still had fun and managed to catch some nice fish. If cheez would have worn his GA shirt or hat we would have done much better. Cheez being the trophy drum fisherman he is just had to catch a trophy drum. That Mr. Crappie line is some strong stuff. I also ran out of my jigs and cheez held out on me till the end when he pulled out the ones he had left over from our Florida trip.

Man that is a big ole drum that Cheez has there! I'll bet it gave him fits on that light line with that little reel. I love doing that kinda stuff. Way to go guys! I was planning on trying my luck tomorrow (New Years Day) but the wind is supposed to be gusting to 20 mph. Hard to slow fish for crappie with that going on. Glad to see someone getting out there.

Beautiful drum there, Cheez. emoThumbsup emoGeezer

Coming from the drumking himself I consider that a compliment.
Thank you sir.
It is major fun catching big fish on ultralight tackle.
