This is really a "boat report" rather than a fishing report, although I did fish a little. Put the new G3 in the water for the first time today... spent a lot of time just "runnin'" to get through the break-in period (at least partways). It was great... except for when I dropped one of the pedestals in 60 feet of water. emoBang Not the seat... just a pedestal. Oh well. Otherwise I'm in "hawg heaven." But stopped and trolled for crappie about an hour or so. We caught five or six... four keepers. My standard pattern... those who read me here should know it by heart by now. I'm going to try some new water up in Hiwassee Tuesday. Stay tuned.

RSimms, Congratulations on the new rig!!! I bet that new 4-stroke was just purring... I would love to see some pictures posted once you get situated. I spent an hour tonight biting my lip drilling 12 holes into my hull for new rod holders. It was not as traumatic as I thought it would be and those driftmaster bases are low profile so I can remove the holders if they get in the way - I am very pleased with the driftmasters, I installed 8. I hope to get out this weekend if I can to try my luck at some trolling. I think I may actually have my sweetie talked into cleaning some crappie and whipping up a little fish fry if I can score some...she loves to prepare and cook and I love to fish so things work out just fine! emoBigsmile

Ya Rsimms, give us some pics! I am sure you will love it! The G3 is a perfect boat for fishing the TN waters. Have you installed or plan on installing any rod-holders?

DHaun, I know exactly how you felt! I was cringing the entire time I drilled holes in my boat for my driftmaster bases. Now that it's all done, I don't think I would ever own another boat without them.

drc, as relectant as I have been about drilling it wasn't as painful as I thought it might be. I just measured everything 3-4 times set up the bases and then drilled away. The great thing about those driftmasters is that they can be easily adjusted and removed from a low-profile base if needed. If I ever need to move them I can either move the bases and fill in the holes or just add more bases. They can also be used for cat and striper fishing. I think there is something called http://www.marinetex.com I have heard mentioned that can be used to fill old holes if I need to re-drill at some point - hopefully I won't need it. Now I just need to get out, relax, and do some trolling, hopfeully where there are some fish...emoSmile

I got the G3 1756 Side Console Deluxe (60 hp, four-stroke Yamaha) .... love it. And as noted here, it was traumatic drilling holes in a brand new boat for rod holders. But all went well. I've shot a couple of pictures "in the boat," but none "of the boat." Here's on from G3 website (below). Will try to shoot photo next time I pull it out of garage (where it barely fit... I've got a little garage).

I put rodholders to use Tuesday up on the Hiwassee... caught 18 keeper crappie in about four hours.

I'm past my two hour "break-in" so I'm ready to rock!
