Here's a pic of Ross Malone and his limit of crappie, plus some info from Ross. We've been pestering him to join CFF. Maybe this will inspire him.
What a beautiful day it was today with a wonderful early birthday present for yours truly. Today it started out slow. First hour - 9 fish, 3 keepers; next half hour - 15 total fish with 5 keepers. I told Richard that they were not where they were yesterday and we continued. Then it happened! The next hour and half my counter was clicking to the tune of two and three at a time. Yes, moved in the 6 to 9 feet of water and I was trolling in 3 to 4 feet to get the to the right areas. Once I caught one nice keeper in 4 feet of water. I was tipping each line with a minnow. Some jigs were /black/red/green and some blue/white with others white and Chickamauga blue feathers. All 1/16 oz. It did not matter the color as long as I kept the trolling motor at the right speed and today without a breath of wind it made it very easy. I really do not feel I needed the minnows, but since I had purchased them, I might as well use them, especially in the shallow water. At times I felt the fish were spooked. As the morning passed other boats saw what I was doing and they too got in line. Then the fish seem to disappear. I had 24 fish and only needed 6 more to limit out.
Well, in the next two and half hours I stared holes in those floats, taking them off and putting them back on. I put in many calls to Richard to get reports of the other water he was fishing. I had picked up 28 and needed just two more with my coach leaving. What was a man to do? Well, I begged for what ice he had left for the fish were getting hot in my cooler and I had forgotten to get any in the morning rush. Richard and his client came by and give me the ice. He told me to hang in there like any good coach. I did just that. I picked up the two I needed. One was a nice black crappie that weighed in well over a pound.
