Hello Everyone,

I got to take a rare day off from work and I took my Dad crappie fishing for his 73rd birthday, which is Sunday April 1st. I got some advice from our resident crappie king, Mr. Drumking and I want to thank him for his unselfish assistance. My Dad and I had a great day together. My Dad caught a lot of crappie and bluegills. Most were small but we didn't care. We managed to keep 10 nice crappies and 3 or 4 big bluegills. I think the crappie spawn is winding up at least in Harrison Bay. We fished the sloughs around Harrison Bay and also Waconda Bay using minnows, crickets, and assasins. All the crappie we caught were on some kind of wood cover 3' to 5' deep. All the crappie had eggs in them except one. None of the bluegill had eggs in them. The water temp was around 70 degrees. I managed to catch 4 bass using my trusty finesse worm and the largest was a fat two pounder which I'm sure was full of eggs (yes I did release all the bass!!!) I feel really blessed to have been able to spend the day with my Dad. My Dad grew up in Chattanooga, worked hard all his life, raised me and my two brothers, been married to my Mom for 51 years and been retired from Combustion for 7 years or so. He is a "great" man in my book and I could never repay him for teaching me to fish, play ball, know right from wrong and always being there for me. Take a loved one fishing with you, the memories are priceless!

Blessed beyond measure,

Good post there CCSM! Good times when you can go with family and enjoy what the Lord has blessed us with. Looking forward to seeing you in the morning. We got some heavy hitters on this one with DD22 coming on board with BBK. One thing about the spawn, it is anyones game this time of year.emoSmile Jmax

I liked your report, CCSM. What few females that are out there are spawning like mad right now. The peak is past, and in just a few days, crappie fishing will only be a memory for about 1 month. At least on the lower end. The fish at Dayton seemed to be about 2 or 3 weeks behind our fish down here. Probably due to the warmer water from Sequoia that we have down here.emoGeezer
