Ranman and I got on the water about 8:15am. It was cold and windy. Water temp was 48. We tried jigs below the Dam for Smallmouth but they did not want to cooperate even though we were fishing so hard we had ice on our eyelets. I fished all my favorite places where I have caught them before and we did not get a single smallmouth. The current quit about 11am, but we did manage to catch 4 largemouth (all short), 3 bream, and 1 yellow bass before we left at 1:30pm. It was a tough one...only saw 2 other boats all day, but I try to go whenever I can and it was still better than sitting at home waiting on everyone to wake up. I'm going to try to go back next weekend - Hopefully my luck and my ability to locate some fish will have improved by then!

I am sure glad I didn't go again today. I was tempted and decided I had better go to church and thank the lord we have the lakes and all the places we have to fish and the health to do it.emoAngel Got to admit I thought about you guys out there fishing this morning while sitting in church and had a little bit of a problem focusing.emoTongue We got the best time to fish getting here quickly and I can't wait. emoCool Jmax

You are right Jmax, late Feb and early March can be some of the best fishing of the year in my estimation. Early prespawn pattern can be fantastic. After that I usually loose touch with the fish but this year I plan to stay with them. By late Feb. around here it's usually the begining of spring, have to cut the monkey grass back and all. I would expect one or two more weeks of cool weather and then comes the 60's and some 70's, Yeah!!!!!!!!

2jigs, we had on watermelon and smoke colored jigs. Two of the bass were caught on jigs in the current. The other 2 were caught drop-shotting and spoon jigging a deeper area of the river after the generators were shut down. From whywecatchsomany's last post and my experience sounds like the smallmouth are turned-off for now...might be that cold front that hit this weekend.

Hey thanks again for takin me DHaun!I had a great time even though we didn't get any smallies!I did learn alot and that was what the trip was about for me. That and making some new fishin buddies!Maybe next time we'll get into them now that we've had to do some sufferin!
