My friend Jeff, my son, and I all went below Chickamauga Dam this morning from 11:00am-3:30pm to see what was happening. Generators were off all day which was fine since we just wanted to get out of the wind, tie off anywhere we could find, and do some bream fishing. We tied off next to the trash gate and started throwing 1/32 oz Squirrel Tail jigs tipped with wax worms. We added a split shot since it was 30ft deep. I netted some threadfin that I saw periodically running out of the turbine hole to see what they might do as well...I tried a few threadfin and some cut skipjack but there were no cats where we were tied off so we stuck to bream fishing. Jeff also caught a tiny Log Perch. Thanks to CFF I knew what it was and what to do with it so I immediately free-lined it out and caught 4 smallmouth (none over 13") on the same dead log perch...one even spit-up a partially digested log perch so flip1up if you have any left, they were eating them like candy today. All fish safely released except for the log-perch. It was also great to see JC1 and RSimms out today.

Total for the day:
23 Bream (Pic of the biggest below)
2 Warmouth
1 Crappie
1 Log Perch
4 Smallmouth

Nice Gill. The Log Perch are in the freezer. I'm glad you caught those Smallies on the dead " Wall Crawler" because some people dont believe that they will do so well after being frozen. I have several dozen and soon you and I owe the river a visit with them. Did you filet the gills? For me the Gills are better to eat than anything else.

We released all the fish...my back was too torn up today to think about cleaning any fish, but I hope to be able to score some to clean next time I get out.

Good job Dhaun. Thanks for the report. It's nice to be able to read how everyone has done and is doing. I just wish I could be out there myself.:( But hey like I said before my wife knows some guy named Bill and he wants money as always.

Thanks again for this site. It is a lot better than anything else out there and we really enjoy it.emoThumbsup

I've always heard that DHaun was nothing but a dam fisherman. emoLaugh I too caught a good mess of hawg bluegill. I was after catfish bait but the darn things were too big! I had to go hunting smaller 'gills to catfish with! Catfishing was mediocre today... wind and no flow to speak of made it tough. We caught 8 or 10. The biggest was 13 lbs. I was too lazy to pull the camera out today. Oh yea... toward dark I eased by some guys on the short wingwall. They'd been there bass fishing most of the day. They asked if I had a scale. I handed them my digitals and they pulled a largemouth out of the livewell that weighed 8.3 lbs. emoEek Pretty fish.... fellow said it's going on his wall. With due respect to the "catch and releasers," I was proud for him. Ya'll tell me when you're gonna go feed those wall climbers to the smallmouth. I want to come watch.
